Delivering flowers in Tomball, TX. Tomball was originally named the community of Peck, but was renamed in 1907 after local congressman Thomas Henry Ball, who played a large part in the development of the Port of Houston. Soon after a railroad was built through Tomball, the city started to boom. Boarding houses, saloons, hotels, and mercantile stores started to pop up after the railroad has been built. The railroad boom did not last as long as a decade, but the oil and gas industry started to make it's mark in Tomball.
On May 27, 1933, a drill hit a 100 ft gusher of oil, which in turn had over two dozen oil companies break ground. After WWII the population grew in Tomball again, because people were sick of the "fast city life" and wanted to live on the countryside. Tomball Independent School District serves residents in the Tomball area. Some of the schools included in the district are Tomball Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Tomball High School, and Willow Wood Jr. High.
