The word daisy comes from an Anglo-Saxon translation which means “day’s eye”, and it was given this name because many species of daisies close up at night and reopen their flower heads in the morning. This is just one of the fascinating facts about this flower that appears simple but offers much more than meets the eye. This complex bloom has over 23,000 species, is related to the artichoke, and is actually many flowers in one – and because it is also the birth flower of April, we thought we would tell you a bit more about it. When purchasing bouquets for April birthdays, or simply celebrating spring – call Breen’s Florist. We are committed to bringing all the beauty of springtime to Houston, one floral design at a time. For over a century, International Women’s Day has celebrated the social, cultural, political, and economic contributions and achievements of women. Recognized in 20 countries, the initiative has borne witness to a lot of victorious moments but has also confronted heartbreaking challenge and injustice. Looking ahead with bold confidence, the groups that make up the collective effort continue to work towards gender parity, social justice, equality for everyone. Those intimately involved with the movement are very aware that the responsibility for fighting for these rights doesn’t fall on the shoulders of one entity – be it a non-profit, a corporation, a social action committee, or a government. Rather, true advancements are made when all band together with others around the globe.
On March 8th, join the movement by posting your activities with the hashtag #BeBoldForChange.
Floral Design Day is a day to celebrate the artistic flair and creativity of professional designers across the country. The day was originally established as a tribute to Carl Rittner, whose School of Floral Design was considered visionary and innovative, giving credence to the talent of florists everywhere and dispelling the myth that they simply “placed flowers in a vase”. Applying the concepts of the visual arts – color, texture, space and line – the industry was elevated and recognized as an artistic discipline unto itself. For those who have dedicated their lives to making the world more beautiful – we celebrate you!
Every year, the popularity of Random Acts of Kindness Day, observed on February 17th, grows a little stronger. Celebrated by organizations, groups, and individuals, this is a day that encourages everyone to simply sow a little kindness into someone else’s life. We at Breen’s Florist strive for this every day, and we want to help you be as successful as possible in spreading joy and kindness.

One of the most beautiful ways to elevate your floral arrangements to another stylistic level is by incorporating wild accents. These unique elements create an aesthetic that is truly out of the ordinary, and is even a bit unexpected. When you desire to send a spectacular design that stands out from the rest, trust Breen’s Florist. As professional designers, we are passionate about our art.
Wild accents can include grasses, natural twigs and branches, berries or cattails. They are details which accentuate the floral display with organic grace and a bit of rustic beauty. Some of the more popular wild accents are succulents. These diverse plants come in such a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors that they textural interest to any arrangement.
The simplicity of White Orchid and Succulent is key to its beauty. When one of the most elegant blooms in the floral world is combined with the hardy succulent plant, it creates a balanced and striking effect. Lightly nuanced with delicate grasses, this floral design is a stunning and special gift.
Another variation of orchids, succulents, and wild accents is presented in Natual Harmony. White phalaenopsis orchids, exotic green cymbidium orchids and succulents are arranged in a bed of moss and rocks. The graceful turn if the curly willow adds just the right artistic touch, creating a sophisticated design for home or office.
