Breen’s Florist – National Floral Design Day

When you hear the word art, what is the first image to come to your mind?

For many, it may be a painting, a photograph, or a sculpture. As Houston’s premier florist, our experts are trained to create floral designs that are pieces of art; making our idea of artistic expression a beautifully constructed centerpiece or bouquet. We aren’t the only ones, however, who see flowers as a creative medium. For centuries, flowers and greenery have been used to create everything from extravagant ceremonial symbols to simple household décor.

Flowers have always been an important part of the culture, and an integrated part of all phases of our life. We give flowers when a new baby is born, on birthdays – and just consider the time and energy that a bride places into perfecting her bouquet design. On the other side of the emotional spectrum, flowers are also commonly used to express condolences to those who are going through a hard time in life. There is such a universal love and attraction towards flowers, that many people – like our expert florists – have made a career of transforming flowers into dramatic works of art.

One of these floral enthusiasts was Carl Rittners, who started The School of Floral Design in Boston. His passion for using flowers as art, and for teaching others to do the same, was so contagious that an entire national holiday has been created in his honor. On February 28th, National Floral Design Day will be celebrated across the country.

The floral stylists here at Breen’s Florist would love to create a stunning design, made just for you. There is never a wrong time to celebrate those that you love and appreciate in your life, but this month is the perfect opportunity. So why not surprise them with an artistic creation that they are sure to fall in love with?
