Back to School List Includes Seeds (and Acts) of Thought

Send flowers to teachers in Houston

Okay Houston, it’s time to fill in the blank at the end of the following sentence. The first day of school for students, teachers, administrators and parents’ alike _______s. Hint: two syllables, seven letters and rhymes with scatters – answer: matters.

OMG does it ever! This one day out of 365 sets into motion critically important transitions that impact routines, relationships, and rules for learning over the course of the next two semesters. Mathematically speaking (and with a shout out to lessons in probability), chances are you know people who are going back to school in some capacity, and therefore gearing up for day and week one.

With this in mind, have you thought of sending them a flower arrangement or blooming plant to not only commemorate their next chapter in learning or teaching, but perhaps more importantly, as an expression of encouragement or appreciation for what’s ahead? The global floral industry teaches us time and again that precious moments like these reserved for meaningful connection and heart-to-heart communications when we say “’good luck,” “I hope it’s your best year yet,” “we are so proud of you,” and “you can do this,” resonate even stronger in our hearts and minds when done so with flowers.

Flower arrangements have the unique ability to elevate our words and thoughts

Why? “Because tangible acknowledgements, like flowers and plants, of milestone moments in our academic journeys and career paths evoke multisensory reactions and memories,” explains Breen’s Florist’s owner and local business leader Marcia Wilson.

Tell a teacher “thank you for sharing your love of learning with our students” and the compliment will likely be appreciated. Tell that teacher the same thing on a card attached to one dozen red roses and she or he will enjoy that sentiment longer as it sits proudly in a desktop vase. As time passes, future visuals and scents of red roses may trigger wonderful memories of that gesture of appreciation said with the simplicity and beauty of flowers. On a deeper level, it may also conjure a memory warmly associated with a love of teaching that did not go unnoticed! Wilson adds, “Flower arrangements and plants have the unique ability to elevate our words and thoughts into something visual, symbolic and extra special that leaves an instant and lasting impression.”

Honoring Mother’s Day

Celebrating mothers and motherhood in general has become a global observance that varies in day of recognition and tradition based on culture and geography.

Here in the United States our beloved Mother’s Day celebration is reserved forever on the second Sunday of each May thanks to a Presidential proclamation by then President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. In his heartfelt efforts to articulate the importance of a day dedicated to Mom’s he stated, “it is a chance to publicly express our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.” Here we are one hundred plus years later, a very different and diverse America, and we still get excited for the one day solely committed to Mom.

This excitement can also be found at all Houston area Breen’s Florist locations where designers have thoroughly enjoyed the task of creating custom designs for Mother’s Day 2018 for the past several weeks. Although the official flower of Mother’s Day is the carnation – specifically red and white – the design team has created a wide array of low and tall arrangements featuring many of the flowers that fall into the category of Mom’s favorite in lieu of carnation focused designs.

The Mother’s Day flowers you’ll choose from this year include Springtime crowd-pleasers like cymbidium orchids, fragrant roses, majestic delphinium, colorful hydrangea, stock, larkspur and so much more. And the designs are aptly named after the many positive attributes associated with being a beloved Mom. Names like “Runs Circles Around The Best,” “Helps Me Shine,” “The Multi-tasker,” “Enthusiastic and Fun,” “Multi-talented,” “My Supporter,” “Kind & Compassionate,” “Best Friend,” and “Unconditional Love” to name a few.

Go Green This St Patrick’s Day

Houston Florist delivers St Patrick's Day Flowers

As we approach St. Patrick’s Day our work, restaurant and school environments become increasingly greener (so to speak), in various shades of bright shamrock and deep emerald greens. Themed décor of leprechauns, four-leaf clovers, and all things Irish seem to appear as quickly as they disappear once the parades end and the green beer runs dry at your favorite local pub. While the sights and sounds of St. Patrick’s Day are always festive, we rarely hear anyone tout disappoint when the decorations come down since posters and cutouts of clovers, rainbows with gold pots and little green clad men are rarely impressive. “Our Patty’s Day décor is so gorgeous its Pinterest worthy,” said no one ever!

Need Flowers For The New Year From Breen’s?

Before we know it, 2018 will be here and if you are planning on throwing a New Year’s Eve party this year, it’s time to finalize everything you need to make it a night to remember. While you may already know what type of music you want to play and the type of food you are going to serve, there is a lot more that goes into planning a New Year’s party than that. Get some valuable tips from the experts at Breen’s Florist in Houston when you continue reading below.

Popping Champagne

There is hardly ever a New Year’s Eve party that is thrown that doesn’t include a good amount of champagne being offered to guests. Placing bottles all over your space is sure to set the mood and convey that your party is about to ring in the new year right. Not only should you have enough glasses to serve your guests champagne at midnight, but the entire night should be full of bubbly.

Glitter, Glitter Everywhere

One of the best things about the new year is the hope that comes along with it. When a new year begins, it gives us the option to leave the previous year behind, allowing us to start anew. This is one of the main reasons you will see people dressed to the nines each year on December 31st. Everything from glitter to sequins is worn and displayed as people get excited about their sparkling future.

Take Advantage of the Date

One of the best things about throwing a New Year’s Eve party is your ability to use the date and only the date as inspiration. You can boast New Years signs and even table centerpieces and decorative glasses that show “2018!” Everywhere your guests look, they should be reminded that a brand new exciting year is just a few hours away.

Sparklers

This is one New Year’s party favor that not many people do not think to invest in, but we think there are few occasions during which sparklers are more appropriate. Pass out the sparklers about half an hour before the clock strikes 12. This way, when the ball finally drops, all of your guests can begin the year with a spark.

Three Ways To Say You’re Sorry With Flowers

While we all try to do everything we can to treat those who we care about the right way all the time, the truth is, everyone makes mistakes. Every now and then you might say the wrong thing, forget about plans you had already made, or just do something without thinking. This can lead to a family member or friend becoming angry with you. When this happens, how can you work to get back on their good side? What can you do to prove that you care about them and that you never had any intention of upsetting them?

Saying you’re sorry for flowers is a great place to start. While simply saying you’re sorry may be a good place to start, making the effort to send flowers alongside your apology is the right way to go. Check out the flowers below that we would recommend including in your apology arrangement so that you can gain the forgiveness you are trying to obtain.

White Tulips

For the most part, tulips are associated with new beginnings because of the time of the year in which they bloom. These are extremely beautiful flowers, known to exude happiness. While there are many different colors that tulips are available in, we would suggest that you stick to white tulips. White tulips are elegant and classy and should be sufficient for expressing a sincere apology.

Blue Hyacinths

This flower is known to symbolize peace, which is exactly what you will be trying to achieve when you send an apology bouquet. Additionally, the rich blue hue is meant to represent truth, which is something that has to be present in a sincere apology. Not only that but these flowers are vibrant and unique, so the recipient will be beyond impressed by your choice.

White Orchids

Orchids are not only beautiful but extremely exotic. When you find the right orchid, it can last for a long period of time, which will only remind the person you are apologizing to that you are remorseful. The white color of the orchid is meant to express that your intentions are pure and that you are sincere as you can be in giving this gift.

Roses

This may seem like a no-brainer, but everyone loves receiving roses. While red roses are always a good choice, however, we would suggest that you send yellow roses instead. This color can express a meaningful apology regardless of what you are apologizing for. Whether you decide to purchase one dozen or two dozen roses, send whatever is necessary to get your point across.

Shop Apology Flowers at Breen’s Florist

Plain and simple, flowers are an extremely powerful tool when you are trying to convey a message to someone. This is even more true when it comes to saying you’re sorry about something you’ve done. While the suggestions above are just that, we would suggest that you choose flowers that are sure to convey how you truly feel about the person who is receiving the arrangement.

So You Want To Send Sympathy Flowers

When someone passes away, it’s often difficult to figure out how to show your sympathy in the best possible manner. Of course, sending flowers is the best way to express that you are sorry for a loss that people have experienced. However, there are plenty of questions that come mind when you are considering what type of flowers to send, as well as where to send them to. In this post, we will answer the most common questions we get regarding sympathy flowers and how you should send your condolences in the right way every time.

The Difference Between Sympathy Flowers and Funeral Flowers

When you send flowers directly to the funeral home, these are known as funeral flowers and they are most often displayed at the funeral service. These are most commonly large arrangements that are fairly formal and they serve as a tribute to the deceased person. These flowers do not have to be addressed to a particular person and instead are just sent to show your respect.

On the other hand, sympathy flowers are sent to the home of the deceased, or to the home of their kin. These flowers are meant to show your respect and support to those who are suffering the loss. These arrangements are often a bit smaller than those that would normally be sent to the funeral home. Additionally, you may want to consider sending a plant rather than a floral arrangement.

Should You Ever Send Flowers For The Casket?

Traditionally flowers that are used to adorn the casket is reserved for the closest family members. This is why we would suggest that you at least contact the family first and ask if they would mind if you purchase the casket flowers. If you do not want to bother the family during this trying time, however, we would suggest just sticking to the sympathy or funeral flowers instead.

When Is Too Late To Send Funeral Flowers

If you somehow missed the funeral announcement and just found out about the person’s passing, you may wonder if it is still appropriate to send them late. In our opinion, there is never a bad time to send flowers, especially when you are expressing sympathy. Flowers are not your only option, however. You can always send a gift basket or a plant in the place of a floral arrangement.

Inappropriate Flowers to Send

People often ask us if there are flowers that should not be sent in sympathy floral arrangements. For the most part, the larger the flower, the more appropriate it is to be included in a sympathy arrangement. Flowers like gladioli, lilies, and roses are the most common when it comes to funeral arrangements.

When You Don’t Know When The Service Is

If you don’t know when the service is going to take place, there is no need to worry. If you know the name of the funeral home and where it is located, your florist can likely help you to make sure the flowers arrive where they need to go. If not, simply give the funeral home a call to find out when the service is being held and then inform your florist of the details.

When You Don’t Know The Right Thing To Say

If you are planning on sending sympathy flowers or you need to in the future, you should contact Breen’s Florist in Houston today. We have been making beautiful floral arrangements that exude respect and grace in such a tough time. Pick out the right arrangement right now or call us today so that we can help you find exactly what you are looking for.
